The Wayne Goss Method

Recently, I tried out the "Wayne Goss method," a foundation technique recommended by youtuber Wayne Goss in which you moisturize/prime, then powder, then apply your liquid foundation.

I've seen mixed reviews on whether or not it's actually effective, but I have a bottle of foundation I wanted to see if I could make work. As much as I like the way my L'oreal True Match matches my skin color, it applies and wears like crap. When worn with primer and it's accompanying powder, it doesn't last long before making me incredibly shiny all over and starts to separate.

When I used it according to the Goss method, and with different powders, it actually worked! I got shiny in a normal amount of time, and it looked fine when I reapplied a bit of powder to dull the shine. Best of all, the foundation didn't separate. I'm eager to try this technique with different powders, and to use blotting paper to see if it can still retain coverage without more powder throughout the day.

The first photo below shows about 10 hours of wear with one powder touch-up midday. The second photo is the results of another powder touch-up just before taking the photo. Not bad!

Foundation Review: Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

Originally, I was intrigued by how pale this line of foundations looked everywhere online. Pale and not pink looking, hooray! Since I've also been thinking about going more lightweight in my face makeup, this seemed like a good start since you should look ~nearly naked~.

When I saw the bottles in the store, and when I later put some of the product on my hand for application, I was struck by how much darker the shades seemed! I chose the second shade since Ivory seemed too pink. Honestly, I think my eye might be off  especially when you factor in store lighting. Don't take my word for the tones in the foundation, look and try for yourself. I'm not an expert so I could be totally wrong!

Luckily, Nearly Naked didn't apply too dark, in my opinion. Foundations often seem too dark on me because my neck is so damn pale. I think this one blended down my neck nicely, however. It was very dewy looking, rather than the matte it claims. I did like the look of the initial application; I felt it reduced redness sufficiently and did look like my skin but better. In fact, I didn't even go in with extra product on my chin blemishes! I did apply a setting powder, my standard Rimmel Stay Matte in Translucent. It took away the majority of the dewy-ness, though I did notice it came back within a few minutes.

I applied the makeup around 7:30, and took a midday picture at 1:00. I applied more setting power at 2:00 since I looked and felt pretty oily. I noticed then that some of my redness was starting to peak through. I took another picture in dusky lighting around 5:20.

As much as I liked the look of this foundation in the morning, I don't think it lasted well enough on my oilier skin. Even worse, I noticed a new blemish when I got home! I wanted it to work, but in the end I had to return the product.
